Comparision of etidronic acid and propolis as irrigants against primary teeth root canal microorganism
- Conditions

- Registration Number
- CTRI/2020/08/027096
- Brief Summary
An interventional, double blinded, randomised parallel group trial willbe conducted in 30 teeth from the patients requiring pulpectomy of 3 to 8 yearsold after obtaining a written informed consent from the parents of child. 30 teeth requiring pulpectomy will be divided into two groups using followingirrigants: Group I (n=15 teeth): 9% Etidronic acid and Group II (n=15 teeth):Propolis. Appropriate local anesthesia will be given and the tooth will beisolated with rubber dam. The gross carious tissue will be removed and initialaccess opening will be done with No. 3 round carbide bur. Working length willbe determined with preoperative intraoral periapical radiograph. Firstmicrobiological sample will be obtained with 2 sterile absorbent paper pointseach for 30 seconds from the root canal (pre irrigation) and will beimmediately immersed into test tube with Brain Heart Infusion Broth (BHI).Conventional biomechanical preparation will be done upto 35 k-file. Duringinstrumentation after each file, Group I: 2 ml of 9% Etidronic acid for 20seconds will be used as an irrigant and Group II: 2 ml of Propolis for 20 seconds will be used as anirrigant. The activation of irrigants will be done with waterpik. Finalirrigation of canals will be done at the end of instrumentation and driedbefore obturating and second microbiological sample will be collected withanother 2 sterile absorbent paper points each for 30 seconds. The root canalwill be filled with a obturating material and a postoperative intraoral periapicalradiograph will be taken. The collected samples will be subjected tomicrobiological analysis to determine the number of colony forming unitsagainst E. faecalis. The obtained results will be subjected to statisticalanalysis.
