Patients with a positive diagnosis for TMD obtained through axis I of the RDC / TMD were included; those who underwent last treatment for TMD with a minimum interval of 3 (three) months; individuals with reports of pain in the orofacial region in the last 3 (three) months; patients aged 18 to 65 years.
Individuals with impaired cognitive ability who were unable to understand the questions in the questionnaires were excluded; those with a history of head trauma that is related to the etiology of orofacial pain and that can confuse the diagnosis of TMD; those with headaches or intracranial disorders; individuals who have used medications in the past 3 months that interfere with sleep quality such as muscle relaxants, anticonvulsants, antidepressants and anxiolytics; patients using medication to treat TMD or muscle pain; those who had other causes of orofacial pain such as caries, periodontal diseases, neuropathies and fibromyalgia; who had an insurmountable fear of a needle or bleeding disorders (only for the craniopuncture group).
