The combination of elobixibat and 1-L PEG-Asc can be considered an alternative bowel preparation for colonoscopy considering the equivalent bowel cleansing effect and less frequent sleep disturbance.

Inclusion Criteria

adults at least 20 years of age

Exclusion Criteria

If they had any of the following conditions: ileus, suspected bowel obstruction or toxic megacolon; prior abdominal or pelvic surgery; inflammatory bowel disease; malignancy; severe cardiac disease (heart failure beyond NYHA Class III); chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, interstitial lung disease or uncontrolled asthma; renal failure and on dialysis, decompensated liver cirrhosis; coagulopathy or other hematologic disease with bleeding tendency; dementia or other cognitive disorders; or hypersensitivity to elobixibat. And if they were pregnant or breastfeeding.
