Inclusion Criteria
Children between 2 months to 5 years of age with severe pneumonia (as defined by WHO/IMCI) admitted to Pediatric Wards of B. P. Koirala Institute Health Sciences, whose parents are willing to provide written informed consent will be eligible for inclusion in the study
Exclusion Criteria
•Children suffering from severe malnutrition (as defined by WHO) or severe anemia (Hb < 8 g/dL)
•Pneumonia due to measles, aspiration of foreign body
•Presence of hepatic or renal disease
•Congenital abnormalities ( cardiac, renal disease, or genetic)
•Complicated pneumonia (lung abscess, pleural effusion, pneumatocele, atelectasis
• Previous IV antibiotic for more than 24 hours
