Inclusion Criteria
Patients clinically suspected of IBD (chronic diarrhoea, abdominal pain) and endoscopic lesions suggestive for IBD.
All patients must be >18 years old and give informed consent.
Exclusion Criteria
Patients with a history of stomach resection, Helicobacter pylori treatment in the last six months, and patients in whom discontinuation of NSAID*s or proton pomp inhibitor (PPI*s) is absolutely contraindicated.

Name Time Method <p>1. The difference between the prevalence of 'focal enhanced gastritis'in<br /><br>gastric biopsies of patients with Crohn*s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis<br /><br>(UC).<br /><br>2. The difference in the T-cel subpopulations and their proinflammatory<br /><br>cytokine profile in blood and the inflamed gastric and intestinal mucosa<br /><br>between patients with different IBD phenotyes (CD, UC and IBD unclassified).</p><br>
