简要总结
Vector-borne diseases, particularly those transmitted by mosquitoes, pose a significant global public health challenge. These diseases account for over 17% of all infectious diseases, leading to more than 700,000 deaths annually. Malaria and dengue fever are among the most prevalent mosquito-borne illnesses, with substantial morbidity and mortality worldwide. India, including Tamil Nadu, has been severely affected by periodic outbreaks of these diseases, necessitating effective prevention and control strategies.
Mosquito control is a crucial component of public health efforts to curb the transmission of these diseases. While conventional vector control methods such as insecticide spraying and environmental management play a vital role, community participation and awareness are essential for sustainable control. Schools serve as an ideal platform for promoting health education, as children can be engaged as active participants in disease prevention and can further influence their families and communities.
The present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of different school-based health education methods in improving knowledge and practices related to mosquito management among government school students in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu. By comparing traditional pamphlet-based education, audio-visual education, and hands-on demonstration approaches, this randomized controlled trial seeks to identify the most effective strategy for enhancing student awareness and participation in mosquito control efforts. The findings will provide valuable insights for policymakers and public health practitioners in designing effective school-based health interventions for the prevention and control of mosquito-borne diseases.
