Inclusion Criteria
All consecutive patients undergoing elective open bowel surgeries in the Department of Surgery, JIPMER between September 2011 to July 2013.
Exclusion Criteria
1.Emergency bowel surgeries
2.Laparoscopic bowel surgeries
3.Patients not fit for starting oral feeding e.g.: patients on ventilator, unconscious patients, etc.
4.Patients undergoing feeding procedures like feeding jejunostomy, etc
