Inclusion Criteria
Adult patients (>= 18 years) of
either sex undergoing
emergency laparotomy for
major abdominal surgery,
requiring general anaesthesia.
Informed written consent.
Exclusion Criteria
Preoperative requirement of
mechanical ventilation.
Preoperative room air
oximetry SaO2 <90%, or PaO2
<60 mmHg.
Patient requiring high dose of
vasopressor support
(Norepinephrine equivalent >
0.2 mcg/ kg /min).
ASA 5 patients, not expected
to live beyond 24 hours.
