Inclusion Criteria
no diabetes mellitus 1 or 2
- Not taking any medication affecting the autonomic nervous system e.g. ß-blockers, antiarrhythmics etc.
- No previous cardiovascular disease (e.g., sic-sinus, AV block, atrial fibrillation, etc.)
- Age between 18 and 80 years
- Patient in the pain outpatient clinic of the University Hospital Mannheim
- Therapy with TLA planned
Exclusion Criteria
- Minors
- adults incapable of giving consent
- Further, patients who object to the above inclusion criteria or do not give consent for inclusion in the study are to be excluded.

Name Time Method The primary endpoint of the study is to assess the influence of the intravenously applied short-acting local anesthetic procaine on the VNS using HRV.
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method The secondary endpoint of the study is to determine the clinical applicability of HRV as a tool to detect the systemic effects of procaine.
