Brief Summary

Although yoga is undoubtedly of great value in improving health and well-being, scientific data on metabolic benefits have not been clearly elucidated from India. There have been scatteredreports on the usefulness of yoga in adults, but its value on the health and well-beingof childrenhasnot been much studied. This study will examine the effectiveness of a school based yoga intervention on stress levels, metabolic parameters and cognition of adolescents studying in grades VIII – X (~ aged 13-15 years). Various standardized tools will be used for measurementof stress, cognition and behavioral habits (dietary profile, physical activity) as well asanthropometric and clinical parameters. Appropriate statistical tests will be used to study associations and analyze the outcomes. We hypothesize that yoga as an intervention in a school setting can be a potentially efficacious strategy for improving child and adolescent health. This project canhelpto study the effects of yoga on the mentaland metabolic health of Indian youth.
