This study is done to evaluate the possibility of using an alternative airway device called laryngeal mask airway as against the conventional endotracheal tube to provide general anaesthesia using lower than usual anaesthetic gas flows.

Inclusion Criteria
elective surgery lasting less than four hours
American society of anaesthesiology grade 1 and 2 patients.
Exclusion Criteria
obesity BMI >30
anticipated difficult airway.
laparoscopic surgeries
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
known latex allergy.
patients at risk of aspiration
pregnancy
