Inclusion Criteria

Women in the reproductive age group of 18 to 45 years, ASA physical status I or II planned for elective caesarean section under spinal anesthesia would be recruited

Exclusion Criteria

1.significant coexisting disease such as hepatorenal diseases

2. psychotic disorders

3. chronic cardiovascular disease

4. history of chronic headache

5. any contraindication to regional anesthesia such as local infection or bleeding disorders, allergy to melatonin,

6. long-term antidepressant or analgesic drug use
