Bromfenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for ophthalmic use. Ophthalmic NSAIDs are becoming a cornerstone for the management of ocular pain and inflammation. Their well-characterized anti-inflammatory activity, analgesic property, and established safety record have also made NSAIDs an important tool for optimizing surgical outcomes. Non-ophthalmic formulations of bromfenac were withdrawn in the US in 1998 due to cases of severe liver toxicity.

CREATE Protocol Shows Promise in Correcting RK-Induced Corneal Irregularity

• A novel CREATE protocol, combining PTK and topography-guided ablation, significantly reduces corneal irregularity in post-RK patients. • The study showed a 69% reduction in higher-order aberrations and an 80.2% reduction when factoring in lower-order astigmatism and sphere. • 50% of eyes treated with the CREATE protocol gained between 1 and 9 lines of vision, with 95% achieving 20/40 or better visual acuity. • The CREATE protocol demonstrates a reliable and safe method for improving visual outcomes in patients with RK-induced corneal issues.
