The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and Cornell University have launched a clinical trial aimed at combating burnout within veterinary practices. Funded by AVMA and Zoetis, the study seeks to identify and implement effective strategies to reduce burnout and improve the well-being of veterinary teams.
Burnout significantly impacts both individual veterinary professionals and the overall performance of their practices. Recognizing the need for a comprehensive approach, the AVMA and Zoetis have commissioned research with Cornell University to explore interventions at both individual and organizational levels. Previous research has already yielded insights into how the veterinary profession can thrive with some reimagination.
Trial Participation Details
Participating practices will gain access to training materials developed by leading researchers specializing in burnout. These resources focus on:
- Reducing burnout using proven tools and strategies
- Enhancing work performance through targeted behaviors
- Achieving a healthier work-family balance
The training and materials are valued at $5,000 and are provided free of charge to participating practices. In addition, individuals who complete the program will receive $100 and a certificate of completion. Participants will also be entered into a drawing for a chance to win $1,000.
Time Commitment and Enrollment
Participation requires attendance at a series of live virtual workshops, with asynchronous options available. The total time commitment is no more than 5 hours per manager and half an hour per participating team member.
Enrollment for the clinical trial is open until early January. All types of veterinary practices are encouraged to apply as soon as possible by completing the enrollment form. For questions about the study, contact Katelyn McCullock, AVMA Chief Economist/Veterinary Economics Division Director.
