  • The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) and the Stanton Foundation are offering a $150,000 grant for clinical trials focused on improving canine health.
  • The grant targets cost-effective approaches to common canine diseases, aiming for solutions applicable in primary care veterinary settings.
  • Research proposals should focus on improving health outcomes for dogs and be financially sustainable for both clients and veterinary practices.
  • The funded research must be completed within 24 months, providing immediately useful clinical information for veterinarians.
The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF), in collaboration with the Stanton Foundation, has announced a $150,000 grant to support clinical research aimed at enhancing the health and well-being of dogs. This initiative seeks to broaden the evidence base for affordable care options in veterinary medicine.
The Stanton Foundation Canine Spectrum of Care Clinical Trials Grant, announced in September, is designed to fund a clinical trial that addresses cost-effective strategies for managing common canine diseases and conditions. According to the AVMF, the charitable arm of the AVMA, the grant will prioritize research with immediate and broad applicability in primary care settings.
The partnership between the AVMF and the Stanton Foundation underscores a commitment to advancing canine health by ensuring affordable and practical solutions for veterinary care. Veterinarians passionate about canine clinical research and dedicated to finding solutions that are both affordable for clients and financially sustainable for their practices are encouraged to apply.

Research Focus and Criteria

Applicants should propose research ideas that meet specific criteria:
  • The primary focus must be on improving health outcomes for dogs, although benefits to other companion animals are also welcome.
  • Research should address diseases and conditions commonly encountered in primary care practices, whether regionally or nationally.
  • Proposed trials must yield clinical information that can be immediately useful to practicing veterinarians.
  • The proposed protocol must be affordable for clients with limited budgets and financially sustainable for veterinary practices to implement.
  • The research must be designed to conclude within 24 months from the project's start to the final report.

Application Process

Interested applicants must initially submit a three- to four-page proposal outlining their research idea. This proposal should include a rough estimate of the costs to both the client and the veterinarian for implementing the protocol to be tested. The deadline for initial submissions is December 1. The Stanton Foundation will review these submissions and notify those selected for the next stage by January 15, 2025. Further details on eligibility and application guidelines can be found on the AVMF website.
