SprintRay has acquired the EnvisionTEC/ETEC dental product portfolio following Desktop Metal's bankruptcy proceedings, marking a significant consolidation move in the dental 3D printing industry. The acquisition includes patents, trademarks, inventory, and intellectual property related to dental materials and 3D printing technologies.
Strategic Acquisition Following Bankruptcy
Desktop Metal filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July, with foreign subsidiaries of EnvisionTEC, ExOne, and AIDRO s.r.l. set to be sold. EnvisionTEC, which Desktop Metal acquired in 2021, had operated its dental business under the Desktop Health umbrella within the broader organization. While Anzu Partners has made moves for the EnvisionTEC and ExOne subsidiaries, the ETEC dental portfolio was not part of that transaction.
SprintRay describes the acquisition as a "strategic move" that "underscores its unwavering focus on dentistry" and reinforces its commitment to providing dental professionals with "advanced, reliable and regulatory-compliant resins."
Technology and Product Portfolio
The acquired EnvisionTEC dental portfolio includes the patented cDLM (continuous digital light manufacturing) technology featured in the Envision One and Einstein DLP printer lines. The portfolio also encompasses materials such as the hybrid nanoceramic Flexcera resin for 3D printed dental prosthetics, which holds FDA 510(k) Class II clearance, CE Mark certification, and MDR Class I certification.
"SprintRay's acquisition of EnvisionTEC's dental portfolio ensures existing customers continue to have the tools and support they rely on, while also strengthening our position in dental labs," said Amir Mansouri, PhD, SprintRay Co-founder and CEO. "Our mission to transform dentistry through accessible, reliable 3D printing technology hasn't wavered. This strategic move reinforces that commitment."
Customer Support and Integration Plans
Following the acquisition, SprintRay has committed to providing existing EnvisionTEC dental customers with ongoing technical support and continued production of EnvisionTEC and Desktop Health resins. The company also indicated potential validation of these acquired resins on SprintRay platforms, suggesting future integration possibilities.
The transaction represents ongoing consolidation trends within the dental 3D printing sector as companies seek to enhance their technological offerings and strengthen market positions. For SprintRay, the acquisition expands its capabilities in delivering advanced 3D printing technologies specifically designed for dental applications.
