This dual mechanism mirrors the approach taken by Amgen's closely watched MariTide therapy, which is currently in late-stage testing but has generated mixed investor sentiment regarding its prospects.

Alveus is also developing additional amylin (search) drugs formulated as oral small molecules or "multifunctional" therapies.
Industry Veterans Lead Development Effort

Alveus operates with fewer than 50 employees split between its Philadelphia headquarters and Copenhagen, Denmark, where most research and development activities are conducted. The company was founded in early 2024 by New Rhein Healthcare Investors (search), based in Philadelphia and Belgium.

The funding round was led by New Rhein Healthcare Investors (search), Andera Partners (search), and Omega Funds (search), with participation from Sanofi Capital (search), Kurma Partners, Avego BioScience Capital, and other healthcare investors.
