The team analyzed 814 LBD patients treated with ChEIs and compared their outcomes against 133 patients treated with memantine and 148 who received no medication. Cognitive tests administered over a five-year follow-up period revealed that patients on ChEIs experienced a slower decline in brain function.
Notably, galantamine and donepezil appeared particularly effective in slowing the progression of LBD symptoms. Furthermore, the use of ChEIs was associated with a 34% reduction in the risk of death within the first year of diagnosis.
