DEER PARK, Ill. — Eton Pharmaceuticals (search), Inc. (Nasdaq: ETON) announced on August 5, 2026, that it has licensed U.S. rights to ASN-001 (timolol topical gel) from Auson Pharmaceuticals (search), a late-stage product candidate for the treatment of proliferating superficial infantile hemangiomas. The move expands Eton's footprint in the infantile hemangioma (search) space, where the company already markets HEMANGEOL (propranolol hydrochloride) oral solution, the established standard of care for severe cases requiring systemic therapy.
ASN-001 is designed to address a significant unmet need: the substantially larger population of infants with moderate infantile hemangiomas who currently lack an FDA-approved topical treatment option. Physicians routinely prescribe ophthalmic timolol products off-label for these patients, a practice fraught with practical limitations including variable dosing, formulation challenges, and the absence of FDA-approved labeling for this indication.
Phase II/III Efficacy Data
Auson previously completed a three-arm, 168-patient Phase II/III trial evaluating ASN-001. At week 24, 56% of patients applying ASN-001 twice daily (BID) and 42% of patients using the gel three times per day (TID) achieved elimination or near-elimination of their infantile hemangiomas, compared with just 15% in the placebo group. These results underscore the candidate's potential to become a meaningful therapeutic option for moderate disease.
Regulatory Pathway and Market Opportunity
Eton plans to conduct a bioavailability bridging study for ASN-001 and intends to submit a New Drug Application (NDA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration upon its completion in the second half of 2027. If approved, a potential launch could occur in 2028.
The company estimates that 20,000 to 30,000 patients annually could be candidates for ASN-001, with more than 10,000 patients already using timolol ophthalmic products off-label. This positions ASN-001 on a pathway to potentially become the largest revenue-generating product in Eton's portfolio. ASN-001 has patent protection through 2044, with an additional patent application pending before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Complementary Franchise Strategy
Infantile hemangiomas — non-cancerous vascular tumors that typically appear in the first days or weeks of a newborn's life — affect more than 100,000 infants annually in the United States and exist across a broad spectrum of severity. In severe cases, these lesions can lead to serious complications including loss of vision, trouble breathing, or physical deformities.
HEMANGEOL currently serves an estimated 10,000 to 15,000 patients annually who require systemic therapy. ASN-001, if approved, would become the first FDA-approved topical therapy for infantile hemangiomas, complementing HEMANGEOL by serving a different segment of the disease spectrum.

Commercial Synergies
ASN-001 is expected to be prescribed by the same healthcare professionals as HEMANGEOL, allowing Eton to leverage its existing pediatric dermatology commercial infrastructure and its established relationships with infantile hemangioma (search) thought leaders and vascular anomaly centers. The company currently markets eleven commercial rare disease products and has four additional product candidates in late-stage development.
