Clinical Differentiation and Formulation
Qlosi (搜索) represents the only FDA-approved eye drop with the lowest effective concentration of pilocarpine for presbyopia (搜索) treatment. The product's proprietary EyeQ Formulation is designed for comfort and to maintain optimal pupil size, strengthening depth of focus and improving near vision without compromising mean distance or night vision.
The preservative-free formulation includes dual lubricating agents—hyaluronic acid and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose—delivered at a near-neutral pH for enhanced safety and patient comfort. Patients can use a single drop per eye for improved near vision for specific occasions or up to two drops daily for an extended effect lasting up to eight hours.
Clinical Evidence and Safety Profile
Qlosi (搜索)'s FDA approval in October 2023 was based on results from two pivotal Phase 3 clinical trials, NEAR-1 and NEAR-2, which evaluated efficacy, safety, and tolerability in more than 600 adult patients with presbyopia (搜索). The trials demonstrated a favorable safety profile with no serious side effects reported.
The most commonly reported treatment-related adverse events were headache and instillation site pain, occurring at rates of 6.8% and 5.8%, respectively. The mechanism of action involves pupil modulation, creating a "pinhole effect" that increases depth of field and enhances the ability to focus on near objects.
Clinical Perspective
"Many patients are surprised to learn that presbyopia (搜索) can be treated with an eye drop. Qlosi (搜索) has transformed these conversations, offering a flexible, comfortable option to improve near vision in appropriate patients," said Paul Karpecki, OD, FAAO, Director of Cornea and External Disease at Kentucky Eye Institute (搜索) and Associate Professor at University of Pikeville (搜索), Kentucky College of Optometry. "The feedback from my patients who have tried Qlosi has been outstanding, and with the Starter Packs, I now have an easy way to get them started on a new way of managing their presbyopia."
Market Context
Presbyopia (搜索) affects almost two billion people globally and more than 128 million people in the United States. The condition involves the loss of ability to focus on near objects due to natural aging, typically occurring after age 40 when the crystalline lens gradually stiffens and loses flexibility. The condition cannot be prevented or reversed and continues to progress gradually, creating significant unmet medical needs as existing treatment options can be either cumbersome or invasive.
