New Genetic Variants May Help Explain Why More Boys Get Autism

Two studies identify DDX53 gene variants on the X chromosome as contributors to autism spectrum disorder (ASD), particularly in males. The research, published in the American Journal of Human Genetics, highlights the gene's role in brain development and suggests new areas for exploration in ASD. The studies also found 59 genetic variants on the X chromosome associated with ASD, including DDX53 and FGF13, indicating the need for further investigation and new research models.
