GLP-1 Receptor Agonists Reduce Amputation Risk and Cardiovascular Events in High-Risk Diabetes Patients

- GLP-1 receptor agonists demonstrated superior outcomes compared to DPP-IV inhibitors in patients with diabetes and prior major adverse limb events over 4.1 years of follow-up. - Treatment with GLP-1s reduced amputation risk by 14% and overall limb complications by 10% in this high-risk population of 17,288 patients. - The therapy also provided significant cardiovascular benefits, reducing major adverse cardiovascular events by 38% and cardiovascular death by 43%. - GLP-1s showed additional protective effects with 37% lower all-cause mortality and 39% reduced progression to dialysis compared to DPP-IV inhibitors.
