Kenya launched a 5-day MDA campaign in Kakamega to eliminate intestinal worms and bilharzia, targeting 1.8 million people with support from WHO, Amref Health Africa, AIHD, PATH, and The END Fund. Over 4,250 Community Health Promoters will administer drugs to ensure maximum coverage. NTDs, affecting over 1 billion globally, contribute to 534,000 annual deaths and cost developing economies billions. Kenya faces significant NTD burden, including LF, schistosomiasis, and trachoma, affecting over 25 million. The government has made progress in managing NTDs, including Guinea Worm elimination in 2017. Kakamega County has achieved notable outcomes, treating over 100,000 for LF and schistosomiasis, and reducing trachoma prevalence by 20%. The NTD Master Plan 2023-2027 provides a strategic framework for prevention, control, elimination, and eradication of targeted NTDs. Strengthened Primary Health Care in Kakamega through 12 PCNs has improved immunization coverage by 15% and enhanced referral and outreach services. The roll-out of ECHIS has digitized over 30,000 patient records, improving efficiency and data accuracy.
