简要总结

Incidence of nosocomal infections in theIntensive Care Unit (ICU) has

been reported to be higher than in generalinpatient hospital population.

Most published studies regardingepidemiology, microbiology of ICU-

acquired infections  such as ventilator associated pneumonia(VAP),

catheter associated urinary tractinfections (CAUTI) and catheter related

bloodstream infections (CRBSI)  have come from industrialized westerncountries.

Variations in the incidence, microbiology, andresistance patterns in Indian ICU’s are not well understood yet. There is limited literatureregarding  ICU infections in the Indian setting, and hence, westernguidelines are being extrapolated for the management of theseinfections. Till date we don’t have any robust data to formulate our ownAntibiotic stewardship programme.

Hence, we sought to perform this singlecentred, epidemiological

prospective study which included evaluatingthe epidemiology and

resistance patterns of above mentioned ICUinfections at our centre
