简要总结

Weightlifting is an Olympic sport that requires a wide range of physical fitness in order to perform optimal technical skills such as snatch, clean and jerk. In addition to concentrating on performance technique and psychological aspects, balance, flexibility, explosive strength, and abdominal strength are also required.

As weightlifters primarily train their core by incorporating heavy compound lifts like squats and deadlifts which naturally engage the core muscles for stabilization during the movement which is not enough for their core strength due to which the chances of causing back pain becomes more. Low back pain (LBP) is a prevalent concern among weightlifters, with studies indicating that the lower back is one of the most frequently injured areas in these players. Injury rates among weightlifters range from 1.0 to 4.4 injuries per 1,000 hours of training, with the lower back accounting for approximately 23% to 59% of all injuries (Ross et al., 2023). Therefore, it becomes important to develop more structured core strengthening protocols in order to improve core strength and to reduce the chances of back pain among weightlifters.

In previous studies, implementation of core strength training has been found to improve balance, hand grip, flexibility, power, dynamic balance and back strength in many sports such as football, female handball players, professional golfers, etc. Also the core training has enhanced anthropometric measures, maximal strength, abdominal core strength and muscular power in the weightlifters (Zurar et al., 2021). However, the core strength training with theraband in male weightlifters has not been studied yet on the parameters i.e. upper and lower abdominal strength, explosive power and balance.

Therefore, the purpose of the current study is to examine the effects of theraband-based core strengthening exercises on a number of measures, such as weightlifters’ upper and lower abdominal strength, explosive power and balance. This study intends to close the current gap in the literature and offer insightful information about how to best optimize weightlifters’ training regimens.
