iVeena Delivery Systems Initiates First-in-Human Phase 1 Trial of IVMED-85 for Myopia Prevention
核心洞察
iVeena Delivery Systems (搜索) has dosed the first participant in its Phase 1, first-in-human clinical study of IVMED-85, a novel eye drop designed to prevent myopic progression.
The randomized, controlled trial is evaluating the safety and tolerability of twice daily dosing of IVMED-85 in healthy adult volunteers, with dosing completion expected in Q2 2026.
IVMED-85 is a preservative-free, non-atropine eye drop that strengthens scleral and corneal collagen crosslinks through LOX (搜索) activation to potentially reduce axial elongation.
iVeena Delivery Systems (搜索), Inc., a clinical-stage ophthalmology company, has achieved a significant milestone by dosing the first participant in its Phase 1, first-in-human clinical study of IVMED-85 in healthy adult volunteers. The investigational therapy represents a novel approach to preventing myopic progression through a non-surgical, non-invasive eye drop formulation.
Phase 1 Study Design and Timeline
The Phase 1 study is designed to evaluate the safety and tolerability of twice daily dosing of IVMED-85. The randomized, controlled trial is enrolling healthy adult volunteers, with dosing expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2026 and full readout anticipated in mid-third quarter of 2026.
"Dosing the first participant in our Phase 1 study represents an important milestone in the clinical development of IVMED-85," said Michael Burr, Chief Operating Officer. "This achievement underscores iVeena's commitment to advancing innovative therapies that may one day transform how myopia (搜索) progression is treated."
Novel Mechanism of Action
IVMED-85 is a new chemical entity (NCE) formulated as a preservative-free prescription eye drop specifically designed to prevent myopic progression. Unlike existing approaches, IVMED-85 is a non-atropine daily eye drop that strengthens scleral and corneal collagen crosslinks through LOX (搜索) activation, potentially leading to improved refraction and a decrease in the rate of axial elongation.
Future Development Plans
The insights gained from this Phase 1 trial will inform the design of future clinical studies in children with progressive myopia (搜索), representing the ultimate target population for this therapeutic approach. iVeena has planned a Phase 2 study to begin in the second half of 2026, building on the safety and tolerability data from the current healthy volunteer study.
Company Portfolio and Strategic Partnerships
iVeena Delivery Systems (搜索) is a privately held, clinical-stage ophthalmology company focused on developing disease-modifying pharmacologic innovations for refractive diseases. The company has previously licensed its lead asset IVMED-80, an Orphan Drug Designated eye drop for keratoconus (搜索), to Glaukos Corporation. IVMED-85 represents iVeena's first-in-class investigational eye drop formulation specifically targeting pediatric myopia (搜索).
