The company is advancing two Phase II clinical trials with alisertib: ALISCA-Lung1 for extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (搜索) and ALISCA-Breast1 for HER2 (搜索)-negative, hormone receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer (搜索).
Puma Biotechnology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PBYI) announced its addition to the NASDAQ Biotechnology Index (NBI) effective at the close of trading on December 19, 2025. The inclusion represents recognition of the biopharmaceutical company's commercial execution, profitability, and clinical progress in oncology therapeutics.
"Our inclusion in the Nasdaq Biotechnology Index is an important recognition of Puma's continued commercial execution, profitability, and clinical progress," said Alan H. NERLYNX Commercial Success Drives Recognition
The company's flagship product NERLYNX® (neratinib) has demonstrated sustained commercial demand, contributing to Puma's qualification for the biotechnology index. NERLYNX received FDA approval in 2017 for the extended adjuvant treatment of adult patients with early stage HER2 (搜索)-overexpressed/amplified breast cancer, following adjuvant trastuzumab-based therapy.
The therapeutic's clinical utility expanded in February 2020 when the FDA approved NERLYNX in combination with capecitabine for treating adult patients with advanced or metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer (搜索) who have received two or more prior anti-HER2 (搜索)-based regimens in the metastatic setting. The European Commission granted marketing authorization for NERLYNX in 2018 for extended adjuvant treatment of early stage hormone receptor-positive HER2-overexpressed/amplified breast cancer patients.
Alisertib Development Program Advances
Puma's clinical pipeline centers on alisertib, a selective, small molecule, orally administered inhibitor of aurora kinase A (搜索). The company entered into an exclusive license agreement for alisertib's development and commercialization in September 2022, focusing initially on small cell lung cancer (搜索) and breast cancer indications.
The company initiated ALISCA™-Lung1, a Phase II clinical trial of alisertib monotherapy for patients with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (搜索), in February 2024. In November 2024, Puma launched ALISCA™-Breast1, a Phase II clinical trial evaluating alisertib in combination with endocrine therapy for patients with HER2 (搜索)-negative, hormone receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer (搜索).
Index Inclusion Criteria and Methodology
The NASDAQ Biotechnology Index tracks the performance of securities listed on The Nasdaq Stock Market that are classified as biotechnology or pharmaceutical according to the Industry Classification Benchmark. Companies must meet specific eligibility requirements, including minimum market capitalization, average daily trading volume, and seasoning as a public company.
The NBI undergoes annual evaluation in December and is calculated under a modified capitalization-weighted methodology. Puma's inclusion reflects its achievement of these quantitative and qualitative benchmarks within the biotechnology sector.
