- Stage 4 lung cancer remains serious but is no longer automatically untreatable, with modern therapies now able to significantly extend survival and provide durable disease control for some patients. - Precision oncology, driven by next-generation sequencing of biomarkers such as EGFR, ALK, ROS1, RAS, RET, MET, HER2 and NTRK, now guides targeted therapy selection for advanced non-small cell lung cancer. - Immunotherapy has transformed outcomes for patients without targetable driver mutations, including squamous cell carcinoma, with some patients experiencing long-lasting responses. - The five-year survival rate for certain patients without driver mutations can now reach around 25 per cent with modern treatment approaches, according to Dr. Amit Rauthan.
- Roche Pharma has introduced Tecentriq (atezolizumab) as India's first subcutaneous immunotherapy for lung cancer, reducing administration time from hours to approximately seven minutes. - Clinical studies demonstrate the subcutaneous formulation is comparable in efficacy and safety to intravenous administration, with four out of five patients preferring the subcutaneous method in the IMscin002 study. - The drug is approved by India's DCGI for adjuvant and metastatic non-small cell lung cancer, following approvals in over 85 countries with more than 10,000 patients treated globally. - Healthcare providers could potentially treat five times more patients in the same timeframe using the subcutaneous method compared to traditional intravenous infusions.
