Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • 1\. Aged 18 or above
  • 2\. On ART for at least 4 months as confirmed by pharmacy records
  • 3\. Score ¿ 10 OR meet criteria for a diagnosis of depression on the 9 item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ\-9\) OR Score ¿ 9 on the Shona Symptom Questionnaire (SSQ\-14\)
  • 4\. Screen positive for recent non\-adherence, as detected by any of the following methods:
  • i) Self Report Adherence Questionnaire
  • ii) Missed one HIV clinic appointment in the previous 6 months
  • iii) Falling CD4 count (CD4 below 350 that has fallen by at least 50 in the past 6 months)
  • iv) Detectable viral loads

Exclusion Criteria

  • 1\. Score ¿6 on the International HIV Dementia Scale (IHDS)
  • 2\. Score of 3 or higher for women and a score of 4 or higher for men on the short AUDIT\-C screen for alcohol dependance
  • 3\. On medication for tuberculosis
  • 4\.Have suicidal intent as determined by the P4 Suicidality Screener
  • 5\. Interviewer assesses person too unwell and/ agitated to take part
