The scapular index indicates the relationship between scapular breadth and scapula length, which helps determine the resting position of the scapula in an upright standing position. Its evaluation has become more crucial in clinical and research contexts because it sheds light on the shoulder region’s musculoskeletal health and functional state. Determining a reference value will help clinicians in understanding scapular pathologies, comparative anatomy, manufacturing prosthetics and in surgical procedures. The purpose of this study is to establish reference values for the scapular index among college students and to investigate differences between males and females. The study aims to determine the reference value of the scapula index in college students and their gender-based differences. The scapular index will be measured using a digital Vernier caliper. The scapular length will be measured from the midpoint of the sternal notch (SN) to the medial border of the coracoid process (CP), and the scapular breadth will be measured from the posterolateral angle of the acromion (PLA) to the thoracic spine (TS). The scapula index is calculated as SN to CP/ PLA to TS x 100.

- •Healthy adults, without any neurological, orthopedic, and cardiothoracic disorder
- •Participants not engaged in professional or elite-level sports
- •Both right- and left-handed individuals may be included
- •Willing to provide written informed consent and comply with measurement procedures.
排除标准
- •Any prior shoulder, scapular, clavicular, or spinal injury or surgery within the past year
- •Clinically evident scoliosis, kyphosis, or other spinal deformities
- •Any systemic or rheumatologic condition affecting musculoskeletal function
- •Participants with Forward head posture assessed using kinovea software
- •Conditions affecting muscle tone or coordination
- •Individuals actively involved in sports like swimming, baseball, volleyball, or weightlifting
- •Presence of pain during scapular measurement or shoulder movement.
