Adult patients with suspected joint infection in the hip or knee joint after total joint replacement who present and are examined at Heidelberg University Hospital are included in the study. In addition, patients who return 1 year postoperatively (or later) for routine follow-up after joint replacement are invited to participate in the study.
- Age under 18 years
- Inability to consent
- Known intolerance to SonoVue® or other ultrasound contrast media.
- Allergic reaction when given SonoVue®
- Patients with known right-to-left shunt, severe pulmonary hypertension (pulmonary artery pressure > 90 mmHg), uncontrolled systemic hypertension or acute respiratory distress syndrome
- Pregnancy and breast feeding period.
- Lack of informed consent or
- refusal to participate.
