Inclusion Criteria
1.age group: 2-14yrs
2.all patients having indication for mechanical 3.ventilation ( Invasive and Non invasive )
requiring sedation for more than 24hours
Exclusion Criteria
1.Dexmedetomidine within last 7 days prior to admission
2.Sedation >72hrs prior to screening
3.Cardiac failure or Arterial hypotension
4.Known hypersensitivity to dexmedetomidine, midazolam or any of their formulation ingredients and their rescue medications

Name Time Method To assess the sedative properties (efficacy) of continuous intravenous Dexmedetomidine compared with continuous intravenous midazolam in mechanically ventilated children and adolescents (2-14 years) admitted to a PICUTimepoint: 6-8 hours
