Inclusion Criteria

1) patients satisfying Rotterdam criterion for PCOS which is based on any two of the following features:

a) oligomenorrhea/amenorrhea,

b) clinical and/or biochemical hyperandrogenism,

c) polycystic ovaries on ultrasound

2) patients requiring only first line treatment i.e. lifestyle modification

Exclusion Criteria

1) patients requiring infertility treatment

2) patients suffering from type II diabetes / hypothyroidism / hyperprolactinemia / non-classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia / hypogonadotropic hypogonadism / Cushingâ??s disease / androgen producing tumours / any other severe illness or co-morbid status

3) use of oral contraceptives / hormone treatment / insulin-sensitizing agents within previous six weeks

4) pregnancy

5) current or past smoker
