Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • 1\. Elderly adults, aged 60 years or more.
  • 2\. Diagnosed and being treated for hypertension, whether receiving pharmacotherapy or not.
  • 3\. Maximum grip strength ranging from 10\-40kg.
  • 4\. Literate and willing to join the study.

Exclusion Criteria

  • 1\. Resting SBP≥160 or DBP≥100\.
  • 2\. Contraindicated for resistance exercise:
  • 2\.1\. Recent myocardial infarction / CABG within 12weeks
  • 2\.2\. Arrhythmia
  • 2\.3\. Acute congestive heart failure
  • 2\.4\. Unstable angina
  • 2\.5\. Severe joint or muscle pain during unresisted movement
  • 2\.6\. Inflammatory neuromuscular disease
  • 3\. Musculoskeletal problems preventing handgrip exercise such as
  • 3\.1\. Trigger finger
