Inclusion Criteria

To be eligible to participate in this study, a subject must meet all the
following criteria: age 18 years or older, BPD confirmed with the Structured
Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis II Personality Disorders (SCID II), AVH
occurring at least weekly, capacity to consent and written informed consent for
participation into this study from the patient. If they use antipsychotics, a
stable dosage of antipsychotics the last month prior to inclusion is used as an
additional criterion.

Exclusion Criteria

- Metal objects in or around the head that cannot be removed (i.e. cochlear
implant,
surgical clips, piercing)
- History of seizures, or a history of seizures in first-degree relatives.
- History of eye trauma with a metal object or professional metal workers
- History of brain surgery, brain infarction, head trauma, cerebrovascular
accident,
broken skull, brain tumor, heart disease, cardiac pacemaker.
- Skin disease on the scalp on the position of the tDCS electrodes
- Coercive treatment based on a judicial ruling
- Pregnancy in female patients. A pregnancy test will be used in cases of doubt,
e.g. females of childbearing age who are sexually active but do not use any form
of contraceptives.
- Being diagnosed with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder

<p>One frequency question, Visual Analogue Scale (2 items severity malevolence and<br /><br>omnipotence of the voices), Korte Klachten Lijst (Short symptom list, including<br /><br>item self-esteem and paranoid ideation), Brief State Paranoia Checklist, Quick<br /><br>Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS), subscales of the Difficulties in<br /><br>Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) and the Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS).<br /><br>Furthermore side-effects, smoking behavior and cognitive performance (Stroop<br /><br>test and trail making test) will be measured. One week after the tDCS<br /><br>intervention (tDCS and sham) several qualitative questions will be asked about<br /><br>the experiences with tDCS.</p><br>
