Preterm neonates between 25 weeks to 31 weeks 6 days period of gestation delivered by normal vaginal route or by lower segment caesarian section in whom clamping of the umbilical cord is delayed by 40 seconds to 2 minutes would be included. All neonates in whom delayed cord clamping could not be followed for maternal or neonatal reasons would serve as the control population.
Preterm neonate with an antenatally diagnosed congenital anomaly including congenital cardiac lesions, aneuploidy, craniofacial dysmorphism, fetal bradycardia, severe intrauterine growth restricted (IUGR) neonate, Rh incompatibility or other causes of fetal anemia would be excluded.
