Inclusion Criteria

Phase 1:

Women willing to give consent.

Middle-aged women of the age group 35-55 yrs.

Women with BMI = 23kg/m2 (Overweight- 23-24.9kg/ m2, Obese = 30 kg/m2)

Phase 2:

Abnormal HOMA-IR ( >2) indicating insulin resistance.

Willingness to follow high fiber diet as recommended if randomized to intervention arm.

Exclusion Criteria

Women with any disorder that will affect their nutritional status like tuberculosis, HIV, cancer, and organ failures.

Women with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Women with hypertension, thyroid disorders or other medical conditions and started on any medication that can affect body weight (including thyroxine, antithyroid medications, and diuretics) after enrolment in the study.

Pregnant or lactating women.

Women with contraindications for high fiber consumption, for example IBD.

Women already following a weight loss regime.

Women consuming fiber more than the recommended dietary allowance.
