Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •1\)Adult patients (\= 18 years) of either sex undergoing emergency laparotomy for major abdominal surgery, requiring general anesthesia.
- •2\)Informed written consent.
Exclusion Criteria
- •1\)Preoperative requirement of mechanical ventilation.
- •2\)Preoperative room air oximetry SaO2 \<90%, or PaO2 \<60 mmHg.
- •3\)Patients requiring high doses of vasopressor support (Norepinephrine equivalent \> 0\.2 mcg/ kg /min).
- •4\)ASA 5 patients, not expected to live beyond 24 hours.
