Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • •Adult patients (\>\= 18 years) of
  • •either sex undergoing
  • •emergency laparotomy for
  • •major abdominal surgery,
  • •requiring general anaesthesia.
  • •Informed written consent.

Exclusion Criteria

  • •Preoperative requirement of
  • •mechanical ventilation.
  • •Preoperative room air
  • •oximetry SaO2 \<90%, or PaO2
  • •Patient requiring high dose of
  • •vasopressor support
  • •(Norepinephrine equivalent \>
  • •0\.2 mcg/ kg /min).
  • •ASA 5 patients, not expected
  • •to live beyond 24 hours.
