All hospital patients planned for elective revision surgery due to failure/loosening of their THA or TKA implant will be eligible for participation provided they are willing and able to give their consent for use of their their human tissues for medical/scientific research.
Patients will be excluded from participation if they are planned for revision surgery due to suspected arthroplasty dislocation or malpositioning, have received intravenous and/or oral antibiotics within two weeks before the diagnostic workup, or if they have a diagnosis of a systemic inflammatory disease.

Name Time Method The value of flow cytometry analysis of synovial fluid as a diagnostic tool for diagnosing PJI in terms of validity, sensitivity and specificity when added to the current diagnostic scoring system (and compared to using the current diagnostic scoring system without this novel method).
