Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Patients belonging to American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I \& II
  • Patients undergoing ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery
  • Age group between 16 and 50 years
  • Hemodynamically stable
  • Patients on phenytoin therapy\>\=7 days

Exclusion Criteria

  • History of hypertension, diabetes or other systemic illness
  • History of drug or alcohol abuse
  • History of chronic pain or daily intake of analgesics
  • History of intake of nonsteroidal anti\-inï¬?ammatory drugs within 24 h before surgery
