Football is a high-intensity, intermittent sport that demands repeated bouts of sprinting, rapid changes of direction, agility, and sustained endurance throughout match play.
Players frequently perform explosive movements such as accelerations, decelerations, cutting, tackling, and high-speed running, which place substantial physical demands on the neuromuscular and cardiovascular systems.
Agility, defined as the ability to change direction rapidly in response to stimuli, and endurance, which enables players to sustain performance across the duration of a match, are critical determinants of football performance. Traditionally played on natural grass, football is now increasingly conducted on artificial turf and other modified surfaces.
These playing surfaces differ in mechanical properties such as traction, stiffness, and energy restitution, which may influence lower-limb biomechanics, physical performance, and fatigue responses.
Understanding how different playing surfaces affect agility and endurance is therefore essential for optimizing performance and training strategies in football players. Football is inherently unpredictable, requiring players to react quickly to external stimuli such as ball movement and opponent actions, making agility a key performance component.
Both planned change-of-direction speed and reactive agility are associated with injury risk and match effectiveness. Similarly, endurance capacity plays a vital role in maintaining consistent performance and reducing fatigue-related decline during matches.
Previous studies have reported differences in injury patterns, biomechanical loading, and physical demands across playing surfaces, particularly between natural grass and artificial turf. While research has extensively examined injury prevalence and selected performance variables, there remains a lack of football-specific studies simultaneously evaluating agility and endurance across different playing surfaces.
Addressing this gap may assist coaches, trainers, and clinicians in developing surface-specific training programs, improving performance, and contributing to injury prevention strategies.
Agility and endurance tests will be conducted on both natural ground and artificial turf surfaces. Agility will be assessed using the Illinois Agility Test and Reactive Agility Test, while endurance will be evaluated using the Yo-Yo Intermittent Test.
Each participant will perform three trials for each test, and the best performance score will be recorded as the Final value. Testing will be supervised using standardized equipment such as cones, measuring tape, stopwatch, and audio signals for the Yo-Yo test.

- •• All genders football players with age ranging from 15 to 25 years.
- •• Minimum of 1 year of football experience.
排除标准
- •• Any musculoskeletal injury, surgery, or illness within the last 2–6 months that inhibits testing or performance.
- •• Diagnosed case of neurological or psychological conditions affecting balance, coordination, or training compliance.
- •• Refusal or inability to provide informed consent or adhere to the study protocol.
