•Inpatients with a depressive episode (ICD\-10 F31, F32, F33;
•HAMD\-21: \=17\)
•\- Patients will only be included in the study after the study procedure has been explained in full and in detail and they have given their informed consent in writing

•\- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
•\- Drug or alcohol addiction
•\- Dementia
•\- Depressive episode secondary to a somatic/neurological illness or substance dependence
•\- Severe concomitant neurological or internal illness that may falsify the test results (e.g. recent myocardial infarction, Cushing's disease, underlying rheumatic diseases)
•\- Other additional severe psychiatric comorbidities
•\- The patient is unable to understand the nature and scope of the study and is therefore unable to give consent.
•\- Inclusion not voluntary
•\- Regular systemic intake of steroids or non\-steroidal anti\-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
•\- Incompatibility with MR measurement
