Study Overview

Brief Summary

Academic performance is the extent to which a student, teacher orinstitution has achieved their short and long term educational goals. School life comprises 1/3rd of the life of an individual whichinfluences rest of the life of that student. It is generally noticed that atleast 20% of children in a classroom get poor marks and they are scholasticallybackward.

Thereare significant state-wise differences in student performance across states. InIndia, Kerala, Maharashtra, Orissa and Karnataka were clearly performingoverall better than the national average. But the overall percentage ofstudents scoring zero across all states in India was 0.85% for all classes andsubjects. Poor academic performance of the student may lead togradual loss of self-confidence, increased stress, depression, discontinuationof studies and examination malpractice etc. This in turn becomes a matter ofworry for parents also.  Hence many parents approach physicians insearch of memory and intelligence boosting medications for their children.

Ayurvedahas contributed several Medhya dravyas which are extensively used in improvingacademic performance.  Poor academicperformance is also tackled through various non-pharmacological measuresmentioned in Vedas and Upanishats that help in promotion of Medha and itsfaculties Grahana, Dharana, Smarana.   Medha Sukta is one such chanting selected fromKrishna Yajurveda. Through Medha Sukta prayers are offered to enhance Medha andon regular chanting it is said to improve intelligence. Researches have alsoupheld its efficiency in improving IQ levels. Medha Sukta can be practiced everydayeven by swasta of all age group.

Being a form of Adravyabhuta Chikitsa  as well as Daivavyapashraya Chikitsamentioned in Ayurveda, Medha Sukta is selected in this study toobserve its effectiveness on academic performance on school children.
