Inclusion Criteria

Mild or moderate anemia and an underlying iron deficiency.

Exclusion Criteria

1 Apparent non-nutritional etiology of anemia (eg presence of obvious bleeding, features of chronic hemolytic anemia in form of hemolytic facies or firm hepatosplenomegaly, systemic or hematological malignancies)

2 Known or suspected chronic systemic disease

3 Received or receiving iron preparation during last 2 weeks

4 Received blood/packed cell transfusion within last 3 months
