Inclusion Criteria
Age of 18 years old and older and diagnosis of moderate or severe ARDS according to the BERLIN criteria
Exclusion Criteria
contraindications for recruitment maneuver (RM), esophageal balloon catheter insertion, and applying the EIT, namely, the presence of one of the following conditions: 1) increase intracranial pressure; 2) profound hypotension; 3) pneumothorax; 4) lung bullae; 5) GI bleeding; 6) chest wall trauma; or 7) on a pacemaker.
