Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • •Age of 18 years old and older and diagnosis of moderate or severe ARDS according to the BERLIN criteria

Exclusion Criteria

  • •contraindications for recruitment maneuver (RM), esophageal balloon catheter insertion, and applying the EIT, namely, the presence of one of the following conditions: 1\) increase intracranial pressure; 2\) profound hypotension; 3\) pneumothorax; 4\) lung bullae; 5\) GI bleeding; 6\) chest wall trauma; or 7\) on a pacemaker.
