The patient will be treated as an inpatient or outpatient at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy.
- Subjects of the healthy control group will be recruited via newspaper advertisements (digital and print) as well as notices at the University of Bonn and the University Hospital Bonn and will be admitted to the study after a short telephone screening to exclude psychopathological symptoms.
- The patient is between 18 and 60 years of age.
- The patient is able to fully comprehend all information provided verbally and in writing and agrees to participate in the study.
- The patient must provide legally valid informed consent.
- Patient must provide legally effective informed consent.
- Patient has a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) according to DSM-IV diagnostic criteria, verified based on SKID interview.
- The current depressive episode has lasted for = 4 weeks.
- The patient scores = 20 on the BDI-II.
- Individuals who suffer from claustrophobia, have (new) tattoos, wear non-removable magnetizable materials in their bodies, or have worked in metalworking jobs.
- For women: Pregnancy (or uncertainty regarding pregnancy) or lactation.
Individuals with the following principal diagnoses:
- bipolar disorders
- obsessive-compulsive disorder
- post-traumatic stress disorder
- Generalized anxiety disorder
- panic disorder
- Personality disorders
- History of brain injury
- Epilepsy
- Parkinson's disease
- Huntington's disease
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Stroke
