- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Work Ability Index
The primary outcome is the patient’s work ability as measured by the German version of the Work Ability Index (WAI). The WAI assesses the degree to which workers consider their state of health adequate to cope with the demands of their jobs. The questionnaire comprises the following items: (1) current work ability compared with lifetime best, (2) work ability in relation to the demands of the job, (3) number of current diseases diagnosed by a physician, (4) estimated work impairment due to diseases, (5) sick leave during the past year, (6) own prognosis of work ability two years from now and (7) mental resources. Item scores were summed to yield a total score. The WAI total score ranges from 7 to 49, with higher scores indicating better work ability.

The WAI is assessed by questionnaire at the beginning of aftercare as well as six and twelve months after the beginning of aftercare.
