All ASA-I and ASA-II patients, aged 50 years and above of either sex, who are scheduled to undergo elective non cardiac surgery with expected duration of one and half hours or more under general anaesthesia at Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla.
1)Patient refusing consent.
2)ASA grade III and IV.
3)History of schizophrenia, epilepsy or parkinsons disease
4)Visual,hearing , language or other barriers which hampers communication or preoperative delirium assessment.
5)Neurosurgery or traumatic brain injury
6)Severe bradycardia(hr <40bpm),sick sinus syndrome or atrio ventricular blocks of 2 degree or above
7)Severe hepatic dysfunction
8)Renal failure
9)Patients where baseline Neecham score is 20 or below it.
10)Patients aged less than 50 years.
