There are individual criteria for each test:
1. Jump and hopping tests: Any master athlete
2. Heat exchange, oxygen delivery and consumption limitations of muscle function: Any Master Athlete.
3. Blood samples for determination of oxidative stress, systemic inflammation, lipoprotein profile, glucose, insulin:Any Master Athlete
4. Muscle Biopsy (Biopsy): Any master athlete
5. Follow-up of bone density measurements (pQCT): Athletes who have already participated in our pQCT-study in the past
6. Sarcopenia: Any master athlete
7. Resting metabolic rate: Any master athlete
8. Incidence of injuries and medical emergencies in master athletes during competition: Any master athlete with an injury during the competition
9. Muscle Biopsy Control group (DLR Cologne):No regular training for a specific sport on a competition level. As this is a control group, participants will be matched with the athletes.
There are individual criteria for each test:
1. Jump and hopping tests: none
2. Heat exchange, oxygen delivery and consumption limitations of muscle function: Neuromuscular disorders
Cardiovascular history including:
oprevious myocardial infarction
oprevious stroke
oknown cardiac valve insufficiencies
oarrhythmias
major surgery in the last two years
organ transplants
3. Blood samples for determination of oxidative stress, systemic inflammation, lipoprotein profile, glucose, insulin:Increased bleeding tendency (hemophilia, regular use of anticoagulants)
4. Muscle Biopsy (Biopsy): Increased bleeding tendency (hemophilia, regular use of anticoagulants), history of intolerance to local anesthetics, neuromuscular disorders, cardiovascular history including:
oprevious myocardial infarction
oprevious stroke
oknown cardiac valve insufficiencies
oarrhythmias
major surgery in the last two years
organ transplants
5. Follow-up of bone density measurements (pQCT): Athletes who have not participated in our study in the past, pregnant athletes
6. Sarcopenia: Athletes with a cardiac pacemaker or an implantable cardioverter defibrillator
7. Resting metabolic rate: none
8. On location: Incidence of injuries and medical emergencies in master athletes during competition: none
9. Muscle Biopsy Control group (DLR Cologne): As this is a control group, participants will be matched with the athletes. Otherwise same exclusion criteria as in test station 3.
Study & Design

- Study Design
- Not specified
- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Muscle force measured once with jump- and hopping tests, Vo2max measured once by spiroergometry, determination of muscle mass once with bioimpedance, basal metabolic rate measured once by a fasting-measurement, assessment of injuries and emergencies by data collecion with cards.
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method
